Missionary Families of Christ-USA (MFC-USA) and in cooperation of MFC-Arizona (MFC-AZ) held its annual Southwest Region’s Leaders’ Retreat last August 26 to 28, 2022 at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale Arizona with the theme “The Mystery of the Holy Eucharist in the Life of the Church” and Father Celsus Auguiste served as the retreat master.

The main subject matter was about Holy Eucharist. Father Celsus expounded the discussions of initially describing what Holy Eucharist is and cited the significant links of the Holy Eucharist in the course of some biblical events: 1- from the perpetuation of God’s old covenant to the perfect fulfillment of the old covenant to the new covenant through the embodiment of Jesus Christ; 2- the teaching of the New Testament builds on the Old Testament’s background with its emphasis on salvation as a new experience of the presence of God through Jesus Christ; 3- the significance of the Eucharist in the early development and proliferation of the Great Commission by the early catholic church; and 4- the “Real Presence” of Jesus Christ is the essence of a mass by means of the Holy Eucharist.

The gathering was also celebrated with a Holy Mass; praying of the Holy Rosary, Chaplet of the Divine Mercy, Liturgy of the Hours; and praise and worship during each day of the three-day event. Furthermore, the retreatants were also offered reconciliation and healing services led by Father Celsus and three other priests.

In my opinion, I say that the program was a success. As Brother Ed Yamba, our beloved MFC-USA Country Servant/Continent Coordinator for the Americas, stated that he was quite astounded by the subject matter regarding Eucharist. He mentioned, and as I translated his words to my own interpretation, he got immersed in the discussion and at the end of the program, deepened his understanding and appreciation of the Holy Eucharist.

On behalf of MFC-AZ, we would like to acknowledge and express our gratitude to our MFC-USA Country Servant/Continent Coordinator for the Americas, Ed Yamba; Southwest Zone Coordinators, Eric and Alice Pormento; MFC-AZ Area Servant Leaders, Arnel and Beth De Padua; and all Southwest Zone Area Sections Servant Leaders, Coordinators, Household Servant Leaders, members, and guests who attended for showing a remarkable esprit de corps.
